but god #remember season eight #and how the show surpassed our dreams and then sort of ripped them into bloody shreds and #then began the long work of sewing the tatters back together again? #because those were heady times #the fool didn’t know it yet - couldn’t - because he was far from ready #but his heart was miles - leaps - bounds ahead of him and it was wondrous #and looking at these gifs the journey is so painfully clear and solid i want to cry #there’s the petty mockery and hijinks #to the faint surprise of seeing parts of the girl you figured you knew completely #and the kinship of knowing that even though you might bicker like cats and dogs #you GET each other; she GETS you in ways that most people don’t bother - and that sure is something isn’t it? #the reluctant attraction and maidenly horror at having to do her zipper (the scandal!) #and unarticulated jealousy because she’s wearing a dress like that for a douche like that AND - AND #and then the indrawn breaths and utter absorption on his face as he watches her unravel before him on the subject of cufflinks #and because she’s beautiful and she smells so nice and LOISSSSSSSSS #(still doesn’t know shit at this point because clark) #and the chagrin at her discovering just how much she’s burrowed into his life #because she’s the voice he hears in his head when he writes non sequitars and passive sentences #yelling at him to write the kind of story that’ll get him on the front page not waffling sentimental puppy show nonsense #and he’s kind of okay with that #then he’s watching her nibble on a pastry and the morning light’s streaming through the windows and she’s so beautiful and he can’t stop #dimly he’s aware that it’s making her a bit self-conscious and he’s not even blinking but he can’t stop. idiot. #then there’s the awe of lois who understands his alter ego better than he does himself sometimes #and how did that happen? #it doesn’t make sense and yet it makes perfect sense. #and then the dread - because the world’s going to shit and she’s probably in danger #and there’s very little he can do about it because there’s NO time. #then he dies when she leaves and we are all slain.
